Middle School Orientation
Last Thursday, May 16 the guidance counselors from Allen Park Middle School came to Arno to meet with the fifth graders. They spoke with the students about the different expectations for next year, and be able to answer some questions that the students may have. Last week the students brought home information from this presentation in their Friday Folder. You will find the following information:
1. Summer Book Report Packet: All students are expected to read two books and complete 2 book reports over the summer. The guidelines are explained on the blue pieces of paper. The book reports will be due the first Friday of 6th grade, and will be part of their Language Arts Grade! I have also decided to send home one more Scholastic Book Order if you would like to order books for your child to use to complete this Middle School assignment. This is also in your child’s Friday Folder.
2. Health Form: The green health form will need to be filled out and returned to the school. Additional copies are available on the website if you need it.
3. Information about how to use a combination lock: Students will need to be able to open a standard combination lock for their lockers. The locks on the lockers are permanent, but they may need their own lock for their gym locker if they take Phys. Ed.
There is a Parent Meeting on Tuesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Middle School cafeteria. Any questions you may have about Middle School will be answered then!
There will also be a Parent Meeting on Tuesday, May 21. This meeting will take place at Allen Park Middle School at 6:30. Parents will meet in the cafeteria and be able to hear about different expectations for middle school, and teachers and administration will be able to answer questions that you may have.
Fifth Grade Celebration
The 5th Grade Celebration will take place on Wednesday June 12, from 9:00-11:00. There will be an awards ceremony followed by a brunch for students. There will be an email sent with more information.
Scholastic Book Order
I decided to do one final book order so that students would be able to order books that may be needed for their summer book reports. In order to ensure that the books are in before school is out. Orders are due this week.
Final book orders are due Thursday, May 23, 2019!
If you are ordering anything as a gift, please let me know and I will contact you to arrange the pick-up once the order is in!

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to Isaac and Cameron who celebrate their birthday this month!
Junior Achievement
We have a representative coming to speak with the students about economics. Mr. Paul will come in on Thursdays for a 5-week course for Junior Achievement.
Respect, Responsibility and Safety
These are the 3 major points outlined in our PBIS program here at Arno.
As we are getting closer to the end of the year, student behavior in general is getting a little relaxed. Currently, I have had conversations (with the whole group, and individuals), and I have even given some warnings. In my experience, behaviors will only get worse as the school year draws closer to the end. So please be sure to speak with your child about the importance of being respectful, responsible and safe at school.
Thank you for your support at home. It is greatly appreciated!
